At Perton Primary Academy, we strongly believe that an Art curriculum should engage, inspire, support and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create pupils’ own works of art, craft and design.
We believe that everyone is capable of being an artist regardless of age, gender or ability. Children will learn how to draw, paint, sculpt, print and explore the art, craft and design techniques of other artists.
Art and Design at Perton Primary Academy is taught using clear, progressive planning derived from the National Curriculum. Key knowledge and skills are built upon year on year, as children are given continual opportunities to explore, investigate, plan, create and evaluate their own and other’s work using the elements or art.
THE 7 ELEMENTS OF ART:
LINE: We explore marks made upon surfaces.
SHAPE: We explore geometric and organic two-dimensional areas of enclosed space.
FORM: We explore three-dimensional versions of shape that can be viewed from different angles.
SPACE: We explore illusions of depth and distance.
TEXTURE: We explore the way things feel or look.
VALUE: We explore the range of light and dark.
COLOUR: We explore different sensations on the eye from the way something reflects light.
