Local Academy Council Parent Member Vacancy

25th November 2019

Local Academy Council Vacancy

Perton Primary Local Academy Council has 1 Parent Member vacancy (4 year term).  The role of the Local Academy Council (LAC) is very similar to a school governing body and is to:

  1. Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2. Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school & its pupils and the performance management of staff.
  3. Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

Full LAC meetings take place half-termly on a Tuesday morning at 9.30am. In addition, training sessions take place in school and at local venues on specific topics.

Members are expected to take on a Link Member role, which allows them to develop an area of expertise within the school, be able to scrutinise the school’s performance in that area and offer challenges for improvement.

Ideally, the LAC is seeking Members, who have any of the following:

  • Experience of being a board member at either another school or in another sector
  • Experience of chairing meetings
  • An understanding of education policy
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of performance managing others
  • Expertise in financial planning & management, premises management, or procurement.
  • Local knowledge and links with the community.

Although being able to think strategically and having a commitment to improving standards in education is of most importance.

LAC Members must be over 18 years old, not be bankrupt, nor have served a long prison sentence, nor have been disqualified from working with children.  All members are subject to a DBS check.
